Don't date a girl who travels...

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views
... or expect her to blog regularly!!

Sorry I have been missing since so long and haven't shown my face to you all... I have been on exciting and some unexpected journeys and work has kept me tied up once i returned.

But i found this post that i wanted to share so here i am...

Read this: Don't date a girl who travels. It could be all about me (except the part about the watch and some other more exciting stuff that the girl who travels can do!)

Loving Today: Pretty ladles (yes, ladles)

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views
These hand crafted brass ladles are oh-so-gorgeous. I especially love the tongs and the slatted ladle.

Handcrafted brass ladles.
Set of 6 plus a hanger.
Rs 2500
From Gaatha

Find this and other handcrafted goodies at gaatha. The site is very interesting; you can also read about the different crafts, the artisans who create them and the technique used in creating.

Don't miss gaatha if you like arts and crafts and hand-crafted things.

PS: These would make a lovely gift for anyone who enjoys cooking and loves pretty things... mother, father, sister, brother, friend, grandmom, grandpa. This would also make for a lovely housewarming gift.

Happy Christmas, Doggy Style (no pun intended)

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views
How do you get a rambunctious hyperactive dog to pose with a Santa cap? You don't.

You, instead, chase the dog around and wait for those moments when he holds still for a moment and click.

Happy Christmas. (In advance! I know it's too early but i couldn't keep these pictures to myself!)

Also, you should check this really adorable buzzfeed post called 23 puppies who couldn't wait till Christmas morning. It will make you smile, dog lover or not.

Update: Don't miss the video in the end.

Another Update: I forgot to share this Christmas video of how JetWest Airlines made Christmas special for one planeload of passengers. (Note: If Santa asks you what you want... please don't ask for socks and underwear)

Fruit ice pops

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views
Flavor 1. Watermelon chunks + Tango Mango

Flavor 2. Watermelon chunks + Orange pieces + Tango Mango

Flavor 3. Watermelon chunks + Orange juice (of the store brought variety) + Mint leaves

Flavor 4. Orange juice + Orange chunks + Mint leaves

Flavor 5. Jaljira with water + Mint leaves + Watermelon juice

Flavor 6. Lime juice + Mint leaves + Watermelon juice

I made them in paper cups and used wooden ice cream spoons for they were what i had. You will have  to wait for the popsicles to freeze a bit, about an hour, before the ice cream spoons can be fixed so they stay in place.

Try any of these or make your own combination. You can try ice pops of the non-fruit variety by freezing khus or rose sherbet. Remember that your syrup should be a little more sugary / flavorful than you'd like it be.

Tango Mango aka Aam ka Panna

2 Thoughts / Comments / Views
Aam ka panna is my favorite summer cooler. All these years, my mother would make the concentrate and send me a bottle. But last Saturday, when i decided to make the ice pops, i found myself with too few ingredients, and after racking my brains, i remembered i had half a green mango lying in the vegetable tray. So i had to make tangy green mango ice pops. But first, i had to make the tango mango...

Two calls to ma and i had the recipe in hand.

Here's how you can make it; it's a little sweet, little sour, a little spicy, very delicious and quite simple to make. After a tough day of being out in the sun, a cold glass of Aam ka panna is even better than beer.

1. Cut the raw mango into small pieces. You dont have to peel the mango.
2.  Boil the mango with some water. Just a cupful should do.
3. Blend in the mixer till you get a paste. If you like mint, drop in a cupful and a half of mint leaves. It adds to the color and the flavor is so much better
4. Add about 10-12 teaspoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, 2 teaspoons of black salt, 2 teaspoons of cumin powder, 1 teaspoon of black pepper powder and about a teaspoon of jaljira powder if you have that at home. Taste. It should be sourer, sweeter and spicier than you can tolerate. Blend again.
5. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.
6. After a long, hard day, come home. Take a tall glass. Half fill it with ice cubes. Put in two tables spoons of the concentrate. Add water. Stir. Drink.
7. Bless my mother for this delightful recipe. And me too, if you are feeling particularly happy and generous.

As for the ice pops, that's the next post.

Fruit ice pops and weekly challenge 1 - completed

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views
Yay! I did it :)

Last Saturday, I made a dozen fruit pops - about 6 different flavors. I couldn't find kiwis or strawberries. But i had an orange, some orange juice, a watermelon and a raw mango. With some mint, jaljeera and other indian spices, i made about 6 different combinations. Details will follow later... I have to rush for a meeting now.

Hope you have a chilled out week!

Love and Hugs.

PS: Any recommendations for Challenge #2?

Fruit pops and a weekly challenge

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views
Come hell or high water, i am definitely making this. And this week too. And try to take pretty pictures so i can tell you all about it. :)

Well, summer is already here and its getting hotter by the day. What better way to keep things cool then, don't your think?

As for the challenge... I write about a lot of stuff here that i know i want to try my hands at but keep procrastinating and never do it and i know i am getting better at it with each passing day. Procrastinating, i mean. So now, I will not anymore. Procrastinate, you know.

So this week on, every week, of the many posts i post, i will promise to make one thing and post about it as well with a photo proof, pretty picture or not.

So that's about 47 weeks of trying something new, either cooked, baked, frozen, crafted, or something else entirely.

Sounds like fun? Or not? Would you like to join me on this madness?

Take a deep breath!

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views
Enter Le Whif! Out goes eating or drinking. But you can still get your fix of chocolate / coffee; by puffing it, much like an inhaler. Wonder if they will start making food next?

All ye anorexics... take a deep breath.

{Read more about microparticles, le whif and the professor from Harvard who developed this product and how much you can buy your Le Whif for. Here. Go see. While I take a breather, like the folks at LW would say.}

PS: This product really does exist. I am stiff rubbing my eyes in disbelief and thinking it's someone idea of a joke!

iPad adventures

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views
I don't have any form of Internet at home. So my blogging has been sporadic at best since the last few days. And i haven't been able to use my iPad at all. Except to play games endlessly. (Some of my favorites are Bubble Witch, Unblock Me, Bubble Explode, Flow Free).

The other two apps that i am totally into are Doodle Dandy and Pottery HD Lite. This photo on the right - i created this using DD. I can go on doodling endlessly and have a great time using this app. Pottery HD Lite lets me create pottery using a virtual potter's wheel and this is also a great mood lifter and fun app.

What are your favorite apps? Do share!

The story of a man who wore a sanitary napkin

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views
I came across this a couple of days back on a friend's FB status update and was intrigued. So when i had access to Internet today, I watched it. And then I knew i had to share this on my blog. I haven't been around for a while now but Murugunantham's story made me want to come back here and share this with you all. So much of what he talks about struck a chord with me... do see it... it's both inspiring, and interesting.

See the video here on inktalks. Read more here on ET.

We are lucky

What would you do if you had lots of money? Lots and lots of money. Spend it? Donate it? Keep it? Share it? That's what the person behind wearelucky did. They are giving away 1000 pounds a day to do good... the definition of good being open to interpretation. Wearelucky recipients are random strangers and every giving and receiving is an interesting story to read...

20 ways to find your calling

2 Thoughts / Comments / Views
And i thought Forbes only had boring articles on money and business and all such (Don't judge me by that... i am allowed to be d-uh sometimes, aint i?).

So anyways, i came across this interesting article written and drawn by Jessica Hagy that can help put some perspective on career and work, if you are looking for it.

{I liked it. You may too. Read 20 ways to find your calling here.}

PS: My favorite point was the one she first makes... do share what you liked or didn't. }

Little boxes

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views
I have lived my entire life in different 2 BHK apartments ranging from 1000 - 1200 square feet. And i have always craved more. More sunlight. More ventilation. More space. A little bit more.

Until  I came across Apartment Therapy's Small Cool 2012 contest.

I saw homes as small as 350 square feet and most of these homes house more than one person and sometimes, they serve as a home as well as offices / studios. And almost all these houses look like a home i'd love to live in.

I am totally awed by the way space has been used and styled. Gorgeous little spaces that have so much heart. Go see AT's Cool Home contest and see how much you can do in teeny-tiny, tiny, small and little spaces.

{Image from here Looks like a doll house. But it ain't. Read up to find out!}

Resume services, or not

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views
Recently, my cousin sought professional help for her resume from a recruitment site, from one of the premier job search sites in India. This is like her first resume and i was the one who advised her to get help.

The resume per se was not bad, but it's amazing how easily they made the truth appear so unbelievable with half-sentences and incomplete information! I called to ask her why she had embellished her resume with half-truths and she was like this is all true! Believable, because i have never known her to lie. And she gave me details about everything mentioned.

Am i just hard-to-convince or are resume-writing services really just sub-standard?

What's this, now?

  • Holds the distinction of undergoing Radio Ad & a Print Ad.
  • Bagged an award for Dramatics.
  • Stellar role in enrolling in a Personality Development Course.
  • Pro-actively participated in social service. (Kindly confirm)

Have you ever used a resume-writing service? Do you have any recommendations?

{Love this resume i found on Pinterest. I have come across many colorful, fancy resumes but most if them have been terrible. This one is so beautiful. It's just perfect. What do you think?}
