Finally, several months later, i found this on Pinterest which reminded me that i still had to try it out. A string of lights, a bit of cardboard and my heart-shaped bokeh pic gets done. Yay!
(Of course, being lazy like i am, i never bothered to make a tube or anything to fix over the lens, just cut the heart out in a big piece of card and placed the card in front of the lens. But considering how much i had to move the card around, it would have been worth the effort to actually make the tube.)
