Cinnamon Peas Pulao Cooked in an Earthen Pot

I was working from home today and at 1:30, i was ravenously hungry. Now, when i get hungry, i need to eat immediately. Like now. So i decided to cook peas pulav, no vegetables to chop or peel, so it's really quick and simple too... just put everything in the pressure cooker, one whistle and you are done.

But there was one hitch. I couldn't find the PC. Then i remembered... one PC needed a handle, another a gasket... so the model of efficiency that i am, i had given both together to be repaired. *ouch*

I decided to cook my lunch in the microwave, when my eyes fell on a terra cotta bowl that i have used to make curd in and serve food in, but never to cook in... so ignoring the hunger pangs, and the rats that were creating a ruckus, i thought why not and decided to cook my lunch in the TC pot.

This is a simple, everyday recipe but the cinnamon powder adds a lovely flavor and this is my favorite version of the Peas Pulao.

{Ingredients}

1 terra cotta bowl - medium sized. You can cook this in the PC too, if you haven't been efficient like me.

Spices
1/4 t Turmeric
1/4 t Red Chili Powder
1/2 t Cinnamon Powder
1 t Cumin Seeds
2 nos Dry Red Chili
Salt to taste

Other ingredients
2 t Oil
1/2 C Rice, washed and soaked for 10 minutes
1/2 C Green Peas
1 1/2 C Water

{Modus Operandi}

Skip this entirely if you cook often!

Heat the oil in your terra cotta dish.
Add the cumin seeds and wait for it to splutter.
Add the whole red chili. Stir.
Add the peas. Stir.
Add the rice and water.
Add the spices, mix well, cover and cook on low flame while your stomach grumbles miserably, waiting impatiently for the lunch to be ready. Keep checking after every 5 minutes. You may need to add more water; i had to but i don't know if it was the pot or the rice.
Turn off the flame when it's done. Let it sit for a few minutes before you serve.

Replace the cinnamon powder with another spice and post on your blog as a completely original recipe.  :D
